Airtable Tutorial: Getting Started In 2021 (For Beginners)

Getting started in Airtable isn’t hard at all. But if you are new to it, then you might require a beginner’s tutorial. So, what are you waiting for? Let’s dive straight into how to get started in Airtable.

What Is Airtable?

Airtable is like any other traditional spreadsheet tool but with greater features and an easy user interface. It helps you with CRM and complements any project management. Airtable allows you to optimize data and shift your data online. In simpler words, it facilitates the business to work remotely without compromising the quality of work.

Follow these Steps for Getting Started in Airtable

Sign Up

First of all, you need to make your account. You can sign up for free for Airtable. All you are required to put is your first name, last name, email, and enter the password. That’s it, and you are done signing up there and then.

Airtable Homepage

The first thing appearing on your screen once you login to your account will be the Airtable homepage. It will be displaying all the workspaces. You can create multiple workspaces from the pre-created templates given. The best part about the workspaces is that you get to share them with your team under conditions. Some of the conditions, for instance, include viewing, editing, and can be the owner. 

Add A Base

To make a base, you will see an “add a base” button. Upon clicking, you will see the last option, “start from scratch.”  From the given options, you can customize your base by adding color, icon, and title. Moreover, getting started in Airtable will provide you with the possibility of sharing, duplicating, and moving the base to another workspace along with a delete option.

Open the Base

Here comes the real work in getting started in Airtable. Once your base is made, you will notice three pre-made columns. You are open to using them as they are or delete them and add customize fields. You can attach all the fields together.

For the tutorial, we deleted the second two fields and added various named fields. 

The first field is the primary base, and the following fields are the secondary ones.

For instance, the first field says the “Full name,” and the second two fields will be “first name” and “last name,” stating the connection between the three. The latter two connects and how they make up the entry in the first field.

For such entries, you are supposed to add a formula. 

The formula we used was a test function- Concatenate. For this, you will start with an equal sign. Then use field referencing where in one bracket, you will mention the first name and in the other the last name. You will have to add two commas in the middle, and in between, add two quote signs.

Getting started in Airtable is very user-friendly. It allows you to have many several fields. Some field options will enable you to add Kanban view. This option is beneficial when you are using Airtable for CRM. It shows your cold leads, warm leads, and hot leads.

You can name your tables as you have the option of having multiple tables. 

Some More Things for Getting Started in Airtable

The filter option in the tools bar makes it easier for you to find the entries you made in your field via adding any filter.
